Leonardo Moncini and the Villorba Corse Lamborghini took their first pole position of the season at the Hockenheimring, dominating a qualifying session held in perfect conditions. For the Italian package, it’s a first, well-deserved reward after showing a great potential in previous rounds.
Moncini , who shares the wheel with Rodrigo Testa, stopped the clock in 1.37.189, and commented: “It’s been a session perfectly executed, the car performed very well. I don’t think it is a track that particularly suits the Lambo, we have been equally competitive in other circuits, but this time we were able to align everything. It’s been a season of ups and downs so far, let’s see what we can achieve in the race…”
The session had an unexpected ending, as it was red-flagged four minutes from the end, to rescue the AF Corse Ferrari of Lorenzo Ferrari, stuck in the gravel. A number of teams, including Villorba, thought it wouldn’t resume, but it did, with 3min30 on the clock. Still, nobody beat the time of Moncini, also because of the intense traffic.
Five different car brands are represented in the top six. Behind Moncini, the fastest were the Greystone McLarens of Macdonald (+0s364) and Cresswell (+0s556). Second row is completed by Pietro Armanni (ZRS Porsche, +0s562).
In third row, the two top cars in the standings, the Elite Motorsport Ferrari of Tom Lebbon (+0s614) and th Motopark Mercedes of Christian Mansell (+0s741), which promises a good fight for this afternoon.
Lukas Wolf (Fach Porsche) was the fastest in Am and eighth overall, right ahead of the fatest in Pro-Am and Jim Pla (Saintéloc Audi).
