It was a superb last-breath battle for pole this morning at Misano. In perfect weather and track conditions, the pole changed owner in the last two flying laps following a red flag. Dean Macdonald, in the Greystone GT McLaren, took his second pole of the season.
The script of the session changed with a red flag five minutes from the end of the session, to rescue the Track Focused McLaren of Darren Kell, who spun in the last corner hitting the wall at the entrance of the straight, with Macdonald beating twice the best mark in the two laps left after action resumed.
Eventually, Tom Emson (Elite Ferrari) was second 0s285 behind and Karoll Basz, who led the session up to the interruption in the Olimp Racing Ferrari, third (+0s339).
“Actually, I was quite angry with the red flag, as I had just put on my second set of new tyres”, said the Scot, “I guess the anger helped as I could align two great laps. This is a fast track where finding the right rhythm is crucial.”
The second row will completed by Leonardo Moncini, in the Villorba corse Lamborghini (+0s675), while in third will be championshio leader Christian Mansell (Motopark Mercedes, +0s761) and Jim Pla (Saintéloc Racing Audi, +0s771). In fifth row will sit Vincent Abril (AF Corse Ferrari, +0s924) and David Fumanelli (Al Manar by Dragon Ferrari, +1s035).
Seweryn Mazur was fastest among the Am cars.
