He comes once a year and makes pole : exactly like last year, Giacomo Altoè, a GT Open champion in 2019, is back in the series for the Red Bull Ring round, again with Ernst Kirchmayr, in a Ferrari 296 of Baron Motorsport, and like last year he took pole for Race 2. The Italian posted a time of 1.27.605 that left rivals more than three tenths back.
He now hopes that things will repeat this afternoon: “Last year, we did pole and won in Pro-Am, we’ll try to do the same, although the level is higher. For now, we are happy with this morning’s performance and with having solved a number of small technical and set-up problems we had since the beginning of the weekend”.
First row is trusted by Austrian team, as Christopher Haase in the Eastalent Audi was second-fastest (+0s336). In his debut in the series, Stuart White in the Into Africa by Dragon Ferrari was third-fastest (+0s357) and will have on his side Dean Macdonald in the Greystone GT McLaren (+0s387).
Yesterday’s winner Tommaso Mosca (AF Corse Ferrari, +0s416) and Tom Emson in the other Ferrari by Elite Motorsport (+0s464) will be in third row.
Again, the first 14 cars were covered by only one second, with Krystian Korzeniowski first in Am and 13th overall.
The main victim of track limits was Mirko Bortolotti in the Oregon Lamborghini, who saw his best time (second-fastest) disregarded. He will start from P11. The session was briefly red-flagged five minutes from the end as Gino Forgione lost his AF Corse Ferrari exiting turn 1, hitting the wall with limited damage to the rear of his car.
