A Motopark Mercedes fastest in free practice at revamped Hungaroring

The Team Motopark’s Mercedes AMG of Heiko Neumann and Lukas Dunner finished the day of free practice at the Hungaroring on top of the standings. Friday started with the same torrid weather as in previous days but temperatures dropped for the second session as some clouds and a light breeze appeared mid-day.

The German-Austrian pair posted a time of 1.43.134, although gaps were minimal. Second-fastest was the Elite Motorsport Ferrari 296 of Tom Lebbon and Tom Emson, which could not take part in session 1 because of a broken driveshaft.

Eighteen cars finished within one second, with four different car brands in the top four.

Third-fastest was the Greystone GT McLaren 720S of James Kell and Dean Macdonald (+0s208) ahead of the Oregon Team Lamborghini of Robin Rogalski and Leonardo Pulcini, on the return of the former champion to the series (+0s258).

Fifth in the time sheets was the fastest Am car, the AF Corse Ferrari of Gino Forgione and Michele Rugolo (+0s268), right ahead of the Mercedes of Dexter Müller-Yannick Mettler (+0s284) who led the SPS one-two in the morning session.

Reigning champions Simon Reicher and Christopher Haase, in the Eastalent Racing Audi R8 LMS were seventh-fastest (+0s375), with the Car Collection Porsche of ‘Hash’ and Alex Fontana in eighth (+0s381) after taking third in the first session.

Fastest car in the Bronze Test was the Olimp Racing Ferrari of Stanislaw Jedlinski-Krystian Korzeniowski in 1.43.653.

Twenty-nine car are in contention at the Hungaroring, with the only absence of the Mertel Motorsport Ferrari 488 of Luca Ludwig-Andrea Montermini.

The GT Open has had the opportunity to be the first series to discover, and admire, the fabulous revamped premises of the Hungaroring, which propel the Magyar track into a new era.
